#17. Dawn to Dusk Water Supply

Colloquial Ambarsar is a major cultural and economic centre of the Majha region of Punjab. Tarsika block lines Malik Nangal village which is home to 1164 people in 222 households and the population has access to 200 water connections. The OHSR is capacitated at 25000 ltrs.

Intensive social and IEC campaigns were conducted to create awareness regarding Safe water, health, hygiene and sanitation. Activities followed were as under:

  • Door to door visits conducted for piper water connections and water conservation
  • Capacity building and IEC activities were done by GPWSC along with the DWSS Social team.
  • Muniyadi, training programmes, rallies etc were conducted.
  • Monthly GPWSC meetings
  • Focus group discussions
  • Women mohalla meetings
  • Water testing camps
  • Announcements from Gurdwara Sahib
  • Training programme with ASHA workers, AWWs and women members of the village.
  • Training to Pump operator regarding documentation and record-keeping.

The main contribution for running the scheme goes to GPWSC Chairperson Smt. Sukhwinder Kaur. She is beckoned as the Champion of the village. Along with DWSS Social team, she conducted intensive Social and IEC campaigns regularly to motivate the community regarding demotivating individuals to own source Water and RO Water.

The community is aware of the advantages of water conservation. No one in the village is wasting water and attests to timely submission of monthly tariff to pump operator. These regular payments and ownership towards the service are reckoned by well-maintained records and smoothly running dawn to dusk water supply. The community thanked the Department of DWSS for providing safe & water in the village.
