(GPWSC – Safera)
GPWSC Chairperson Smt. Sumanjit Kaur wife of Sh. Narinder Singh is a resident of village Safera of block Sanour district Patiala. The village is an example of women leadership and active community participation. The village is comprised of 305 household with a population of Approx.1450 . All the villagers have taken household connections. IEC activities like awareness camps, capacity building programs and networking with various line departments created awareness among all the stakeholders. Regular meetings of GPWSC under the chairmanship of Sarpanch Sumanjit Kaur were held in the village from time to time to resolve the grievances and issues related with water supply scheme. Various important decisions regarding water supply scheme like cleanliness of water tank ,beautification of the water work site , repair and maintenance in case of leakages, supply hours etc .were taken in the meeting and the proceedings of the meeting were duly maintained
The pump operator Jaspal Singh is doing his duty very well. They take care of the tank, cleaning, gardening in an enhanced way. Beautiful White and rose flowers have also been planted on the water tank.. The chlorinator is checked every day to provide clean water to the people. Medicines are added according to water usage and a water testing kit has also been provided by the department to check the water. Anganwadi worker Mrs. Baljinder Kaur tests every water with this kit. The department staff also provides training on water testing, Records like Proceeding register, log book, Cash book, chlorine register and complaint register are also maintained in transparent manner. If there is any leakage in the village, the plumber is called and fixed in a short time. People are made aware from time to time to prevent wastage of water in the village.
Owing to the social and IEC activities, community is totally aware of the advantages of potable drinking water. No one in the village is wasting water and timely submission of monthly tariff to pump operator is done at a fixed price Rs 100 Per HH by GPWSC.As a result, they have a handsome savings of Rs 45,000/- in O&M account and no pending electricity bill in the village. During the pandemic of COVID-19 situation community paid monthly tariff regularly as they get satisfactory drinking water level. Community was grateful to the DWSS for providing safe water in the village.
Exemplary Women participation and sense of responsibility towards usage of water is a great boost to the success of the water supply scheme. The sense of responsibility which is instilled by the community participation adds to the better functioning.
