#5. Service with Dedication

Punjab is a land of brave soldiers which are remembered by the entire nation. Moga, a district in Punjab, marks the birth place of Lala Lajpat Rai, an eminent author and politician chiefly remembered as a leader in the Indian Independence struggle. Moga entails a long history of dedicated services for the country and community which live even today in the memory of masses.

Sangla village of Moga district is no exception when it comes to rendering support services to the community. A recent example of selfless service by Mr. Ranjit Singh, a water pump operator of the Sangla village under guidance of Gram Panchayat Water and Sanitation Committee (GPWSC) and the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, presented an example of effective management of water supply service in the village.

The village is located in  Kot-ise-khan tehsil, about 26 kms towards  North  from  district  headquarters. It covers a total geographical area of approximately 322 hectares with population of 899 people and about 171 households. The village has 155 water supply connections feeding into every household. Mr. Ranjit Singh under the guidance of social  wing  of  the Department of Water Supply & Sanitation, Punjab, facilitated social awareness  activities with an objective to bring the villagers together  and sensitize them about the importance of water.

The awareness  approach followed helped each household to have a fully- functional  water supply connection round the year. These efforts were rewarded  by  the Department  of  Water  Supply  &  Sanitation  in  2015 with a prize money to the GPWSC.

The trying times of pandemic, COVID-19, were no hurdle to deter Mr. Ranjit Singh to serve the community. His tireless efforts resulted in building up awareness and accepting department continued role in the community. The community under his guidance worked with vigour  and  maintaining  the  cash  flow  in  the savings account at Rs. 2 lakh. These continued  efforts  with sincere efforts brings  the  village to  the  gold  standard  level  where  it  can  be  seen and showcased as a role model village.
