Land of the holy nuptials of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in 1487 AD. Gurdaspur has travelled through time and arose to its splendour. The effort and labour by the residents of the district bring about these contemporary transformations to the province.

Today, these indispensable alterations are supported by the administration to build, operate and own the utilities for the better sustenance of each of these changes.

In the blocks of Dorangla, one small village by the name of Ucha Dakala sits on the lane to the block, fostering 162 families within. The village takes care of these families with very minimal and limited resources especially in the necessary realms of water.

Water, the vital resource is rationed due to the shortage of water sources similar to water taps and hand pumps in the village. Residents had to see arduous times for the availability and the accessibility of water. It was a gender specific role to provide water for ones own family which was advertently undertaken by the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Punjab.

Social and Technical team of the Department conducted meetings, apprised the Gram Panchayat about the features and the work to be carried out in their village for the Water Supply Scheme.

The Communication and Awareness Campaigns were done with the residents with the help of various IEC activities. These activities received positive feedback in terms of the formation of a GPWSC and a fund collection of Rs. 50,000.

The scheme was commissioned in September 2020 and the work around it started with immense support from the Gram Panchayat. The scheme was ready within a year with approximate cost of Rs.36 Lac. The output of the scheme was implementation of tap connections which was received 100% by all families, schools, Anganwadi Centres and Gurudwara Sahib.

The maintenance and sustenance of the scheme is being maintained by timely invoices in the transparent accounting system with Rs. 10,000 presently available at disposal for the O&M and the judicious utilisation of water.

The transformation in the condition of water availability has brought changes in the development and lifestyle of the residents.
